San Francisco Bay Area Overview

San Ramon Central Park

The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the best places in the world to raise children. The mild weather is kid-friendly. They can safely and comfortably play outdoors year round. They can play on playgrounds, swim in lakes, and explore forests and beaches. There are also a huge variety of man-made attractions to keep them entertained, such as zoos, playlands, museums, and amusement parks. They can also ride trains and watch planes.

My kids were born in the 80's. When they were young, I spent a lot of time looking for places to take them. I looked for places that were fun and educational. These pages list some of the places in the Bay Area to take young children.

Click on the buttons on the right to learn more about playgrounds, museums, zoos, playlands, amusement parks, planes & trains, and links to more things to do. Click on the other buttons on the right for other things to do. The school-age kids pages also include places that are appropriate for younger kids.

Revision Note:
This was one of my first Webpages, which I made in 1997, when my youngest was 12. I updated some of the links in 2001. This update in 2003 is the first major re-design of these Web pages and includes a number of new pictures and new information. What used to be 1 huge page is now 6 more bite-sized pages. My kids aren't little anymore, so I'm not off looking for things for them to do, but I keep my eyes open and my camera busy in my travels.
